The focus of my work is an investigation of clay as experience. For this exhibition the objects are covered with tiles, and are tightly lined up to form a total setting. In the structures I explore the inherent social contexts. Both as individually and as a group, the objects contain oblique reference to bridges, gaps, holes, shelters, plains and underpasses. Glossy, white and the pinnacle of cleanliness. Tiles exist in everyday specificity, they are uniform, public and at the same time intensely private. These properties are reflected through the relationship between disparate situations across a whole environment. Tiles are capable of sustaining a number of contradictory qualities and become a materiality of experience. By subverting this mild material and placing it in an unfamiliar surrounding, I want to question its cultural understanding.
